Day 7 - Umzikaba

Another very hard day of paddling for Robert with an average of 4 km/hr during 6.5 long hours... Just over 24 km done. The day started under some very heavy rain... Robert's tent has suffered a lot... The sand blasted on the tent has damaged the zips...

Today's conversation with Robert was quite short as the line was not very clear. It was also a bit frustrating as we both had to repeat ourselves several times to get understood... Robert has had to start a course of antibiotics, not for the leg with...

Day 5 - Nyameni

Robert had a very good paddle today. 63 km done! It must have been the effect of last night's pizza!!! Robert ordered 8 bottles of water with his pizza, the woman who took the order on the phone asked him: "Are you ok, Sir????"... First job for the morning...

Day 4 - Port Shepstone

Day 4 has been very challenging for Robert. Last night the surf was huge when he arrived on Umzumbe beach and he decided later in the afternoon to pull the kayak all the way to be next to the river so that he could use its mouth to go into the sea to...

Day 3: Arrived at point 11: Umzumbe - 44 km

44.1 km done today. 1554 km to go... A very good day of paddling today... But no fish caught for supper. Diner will have to be pasta, AGAIN... Robert managed to see a turtle and a whale. The kayak has been floating much better thanks to the equipment...

Day 2 on the beach

As planned, Sunday was a day of "rest" on the beach... Saturday was a very hard paddle. As Robert arrived on the beach, a father and son were taking a stroll. They came to help him get the very heavy kayak on the beach and left... They came back later...

First day of paddling! 57 km done!!

7 am at point 000... The "whole team of supporters" is there to help packing the kayak, thank you to Russell, Rina, Joy and Richard for having helped these past two days... At 7:30 eventhough the swell is much bigger than expected, Robert is already far...

In Durban

After a long trip of 1642 km (about 22 hours thanks to all the stop and gos on the way),Robert eventually made it to Durban last night. Thanks to Russell and Rina, he has had a good night’s sleep. He is now relaxing and enjoying his last “normal” day...

Wednesday 21st Nov: Getting ready to leave Cape Town

Robert was up very early this morning, still jet-lagged from his China trip, and started organizing all the gear he had to take with him… The first thing to check on was if everything was going to fit into the kayak and as you can see there is a lot!...
