1600 km solo kayak expedition from Durban to Cape Town
24 novembre 2012

First day of paddling! 57 km done!!

Slide1

All hands

Will it all fit in

Into the water

7 am at point 000...

The "whole team of supporters" is there to help packing the kayak, thank you to Russell, Rina, Joy and Richard for having helped these past two days...

At 7:30 eventhough the swell is much bigger than expected, Robert is already far at sea...

Cape Town here I come

After 9 hours of hard paddling Robert has eventually arrived at "point 007"... 57 km away from point 000. He will have to spend the day on that beach tomorrow as the weather forecast is not good for paddling... Robert has had a very hard first day and is quite tired, knowing that he actually had not had a decent paddle in 3 weeks... Today he has seen 3 dolphins and what was probably a grey shark (6ft long = 1.80 m) has circled him for a while... All in all a very hard first day, but I am very happy Robert has arrived safely and that he managed to paddle for so long... Let's now hope that the on-land adventure goes well too! And that the warning against crocodiles is just a joke!

We are in touch via satellite phone, our conversations are rather short but I will make sure all your words of encouragement reach him! Thanks a lot for all your support.
