Day 27-28-29 - From Oyster Bay to Keurbooms Strand!
Another 116.5 km done!
1016.5 KM DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
640 to go... I am hoping that Robert will arrive a bit earlier than planned to be able to spend time together and to have some rest befoire going back to work!
Day 28, Sat 22nd Dec, Robert only paddled for 20 km as the winds were very strong and completely against him...
Yesterday, Sunday 23rd Dec, day 29, he managed to paddle for 60 km and said the landscape was just beautiful. The night before he slept in a very wild place, one of those still untouched ones that make Robert's journey so fabulous...
Whilst paddling, he had some very close encounters with some big squid-fishing boats... He even considered using one of his thunderflash to make himself seen by one of the boats that kept coming at him. When the next boat realized Robert was there, he came close to them and asked if they could radio the other boat to let them know he was there. Unfortunately their radio was not working... The guys did however give Robert some squids and also a hook to catch some. The squids were very large and Robert struggled to finish the 2 he cooked for his lunch...
This morning whilst he was getting ready to leave, some sea otters came very close to him and they seemed to be willing to inspect what he was doing... One even climbed into the kayak! Robert managed to catch all this on his GoPro so we should be able to get some pictures at some later stage! In the meantime here are some googled ones...
Once he reached the sea, he met straight away a school of dolphins! Very lucky!! And again we will have pictures as they got caught on the GoPro...
When Robert reached his destination, Keurbooms, He got caught in the surf and nearly hit his head on the ground...Glad he missed!
He is now on known land! Keurbooms is close to Plettenberg Bay, where we spent some time on holiday in January. Joy and Richard who are in Knysna on holiday met Robert on the beach last night and they ate at the famous Enrico's...
I also know that day 30, Monday 24th Dec would start well with a big breakfast in Knysna thanks to Joy and Richard!
I will update the blog either tonight or tomorrow but in the meantime I wish you all a Merry Christmas! And I thank you for all the support you give Robert!
