1600 km solo kayak expedition from Durban to Cape Town
2 janvier 2013

Day 39 - Mossel Bay harbour to Gouritz River Mouth

Yesterday, Robert met Joy and Richard who had brought along the new kayak. He first had to bring all his things back to the golf club and that by itself was quite a mission as the walk from the beach was even worse than the one from Smithswinkel Bay... And a few trips were necessary to bring all the gear that got salavaged from the boat...

Here is a list of all the people involved in getting the new kayak back to Robert and we would like to thank all of them for their help:

- Joy & Richard for organizing the whole thing and getting the kayak to Robert... And all the countless other things...

- Dave from Morgan Bay for making a gaff at a moment's notice...

- Margaret and Derek from Paddlers for organising the rental kayak and the roof rack,

- Tim Sayle from The Loading Zone for opening his shop to supply and fit the roof rack,

- Stirling from Thule/Revolution Cycles for supplying the brackets and

- All the helpers on Pinnacle beach, especially Johnny and Gavin, who helped Robert salvage his gear and the kayak or what was left of it...

This morning Robert left from Mossel Bay harbour.

After 44 km of paddling in the new kayak, he has arrived at the mouth of the Gouritz River. So far the new kayak has been doing ok, even if Robert cannot make any eskimo rolls in it and he regrets his Sea bear...

Another problem presented itself today... During the wreckage of the Sea Bear, Robert lost quite a few things including the GPS that got replaced not so long ago by Garmin... Fortunately he has another one, an older one but today that one ceased working...

Robert had to ask some fishermen if he was close to the Gouritz river and fortunately he was... Robert says they had caught quite a few nice fish...

Tomorrow Robert will have to stay on the beach as the winds are going to be very strong...
